  4. To update you Regarding: • Issues around the qualifications of aviation meteorological staff • Preparation for the issuing of a 5th edition of WMO Publication No 258 • My plans for the direction of the WMO ETR Programme

UN Food Security Initiatives WMO input through education and training in: • Agricultural Meteorology • Climate analysis and monitoring • Seasonal forecasts and climate prediction • Weather modification WCC-3 in Sept 2009 will focus on application of climate products and services. As trainers are we ready to support this?

  15. WMO No. 258 The uncertain natureof the standards is causingconfusion WMO Executive Councilhas asked us to sort thisout. The aviation qualsdefinition will probably becomea technical regulation Aviation Qualifications ICAO 258 is minimum set of desirable qualifications

  16. WMO 258 – 5th Edition? • 4th edition published in 2002 • In 2007 WMO Congress made “258” a mandatory publication requiring a new edition every 8 years • Will allow clarification of some ambiguities in current ed.

  17. My goals for the ETRP • Clarify the training needs of the WMO Members and the capability of the WMO to meet these needs • Work with the training groups to improve the quality and quantity of education and training available to WMO Members

Plans • March 2008 – EC Panel • August 2008 - 4th EUMETCAL Workshop • October 2008 - CoCOM and RTC Directors meeting • 2009 ET’s on aviation and distance learning and preparation for the WMO 258 • Feb 2010 – WMO Symposium • March 2010 – EC Panel • May 2010 – EC LXII reviews funding for 2012 to 2015
