DirectorRobert Zemeckis Robert Zemeckis was born on May 14, 1952, in Chicago, Illinois. In film school, he won a Student Academy Award. His breakthrough film was Romancing the Stone. He followed with the Back to the Future trilogy. He won an Academy Award for Best Director for Forrest Gump in 1994. He also helmed the HBO series Tales from the Crypt from 1989–1996. He re-teamed with Tom Hanks for Cast Away in 2000.
