  2. Our Mission • Educate, screen, vaccinate Asian population of Alameda County • FREE Hepatitis B screenings and vaccinations for the API community of Alameda County • Set up a network of organizations that can work together for Hep B, but also could be applied to other diseases.

  3. History • Founded by Kevin Hur, UC Berkeley undergraduate. • No free Hep B outreach in East Bay • Grants • Strauss Foundation • Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) Outstanding Commitment Award • Pat Tillman Foundation grant • Goal: screen 300 Asians in AC

  5. The Hep B Clinic • Wednesday, 1-4pm • Location: • Street Level Health Project • 2501 International Blvd. Oakland, CA 94601 • Intake, screening, vaccinations

  6. Structure Quest Labs Screening events Vaccinate Weekly volunteer meeting Hep B clinic Asian Health Services (HBsAg+) Back-to-school fair Community outreach, education Asian health organizations Churches

  7. Current Goals • Saturday clinic • Community outreach: • Korean, Burmese, Lao, Mongolian, Vietnamese communities • Build network that could be used for other diseases as well • Partnerships with Asian health organizations • Asian Health Services • Community Health for Asian Americans • Etc.

  10. Partnering with SLHP • This has helped us maintain a weekly clinic • As our fiscal sponsor, SLHP helps us attain a deep discount for Quest lab screenings.

  12. What our volunteers offer: • RN, MD expertise • Database ability • Second language speakers • Artistic ability • Lots of motivation!

Timeline 7/09-10/09 – 35 volunteers, 148 patients registered, over 400 people educated, weekly Wed clinic, organized or participated in 10 events 12/09 – 2nd clinic opening at AHS 5/09 – Awarded CGI U Outstanding Commmitment Award 4/09 – Awarded Strauss Scholarship 6/09– Wednesday clinic opens, 1st screening event at Mongolian Church 12/08-2/09 – worked on project proposal 2/09-5/09– recruited volunteers and tried to find more partners 11/08 – learned about Hepatitis B
