  4. Recruitment Market – Macro Trends • Moved from “Best candidate”… • … to “I don’t want to make a mistake” • Why – people covering their own backsides – compliance crazy. • Elongated recruitment processes. • Great people are still in high demand. • = war for talent still exists. • Social media.

Recruitment Market – Current Micro Trends • Goal to reduce spend per hire. • Big companies feel they are competing with one another. • Concerned about perception of their employer brand. • In-house recruiters are maxed out/stressed. • Whilst the candidate experience/journey is important to. them - Most feel that they are failing… • Social media is used as a broadcast tool.

  6. The Pitfalls • Over capacity – mistakes are made. • Short on time – mistakes are made. • Candidates not hearing anything back. • Engaging too many recruitment consultants. • Too much emphasis on CV and hard skills. • Rather than softer skills, organisational/cultural fit.

  9. OUR OWN FINDINGS • People join a company BUT they work for a manager • Your Managers and Team Leaders MUST be engaged. • Recruit people who fit your culture • You can coach skills, you can’t coach behaviours

  10. Our Advice • Become Linkedin experts. • Make sure that Linkedin is “On-Brand”. • Make sure that your recruiting Line. managers have linkedin profiles. • Forget the rest of social media (…for now).

  11. Our Advice • Find a recruitment firm you can trust, who you enjoy using and who will do whatever it takes to fill your job/s. • Concentrate on soft skill acquisition – don’t target fixate on CV. • Build some science into your recruitment process – reduce hunch!

  12. And Finally… • You can start to improve your employer brand now. • Do the basics very well. • Will give you a competitive edge.
