  2. Many new interests compete with AMATEUR RADIO including: • Multi-channel Satellite TV – endless sport and films • The Internet • Music and other festivals • The cinema and live shows The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

THERE ARE PRESSURES ON THE RADIO SPECTRUM! • New Radio Services are being developed and need spectrum space • More people are using radio • Few people seem to know about AMATEUR RADIO! • New people in administrations know little about AMATEUR RADIO! The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  4. Some societies are shrinking! Memberships are decreasing! Members are getting older! YOUNG newcomers are required! Many more of them are needed! The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  5. We MUST: • Create more interest in AMATEUR RADIO amongst Young People • Increase the numbers of radio amateurs • Increase the size of our societies • Create a positive awareness of AMATEUR RADIO in the media The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  6. Target: YOUNG PEOPLE • Take AMATEUR RADIO into schools • Make more use of events such as JOTA • Publicise Web Pages • Publicise events such as ARDF & space missions • Create new FUN EVENTS The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  7. Target: RADIO AMATEURS • Review the SERVICES we offer • Create new and exciting on-air events • Communicate what we do to protect the FUTURE of the AMATEUR SERVICES • Develop new ideas to expand SOCIETY MEMBERSHIP The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  8. Target: The GENERAL PUBLIC • Expand media coverage • Target Radio and TV • Exploit Technical and Trade media • Exploit educational media • Exploit Special Events The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3

  9. Target: GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS • Maintain good LIAISON • Invite Government Officials to Special Events • Hold briefing meetings annually to review AMATEUR RADIO achievements The International Amateur Radio Union Region 3
