  3. Vision Statement Academy Of Engineering's vision is to enhance student interest in pursuing a career in an engineering field by offering a relevant and rigorous curriculum to students at all levels.

  4. Goals & Objectives • Provide access to present and future technologies • Provide rigorous, relevant coursework with hands-on learning.

  5. Currently • Academy Of Engineering at Sunset is excellent program in partnership with • National Academy Foundation - ( NAF) • Supporting academy model & structure • Project Lead the Way (PLTW) • Curriculum • National Action Council for Minorities in Engineering (NACME) • Scholarships

  6. Academy Of Engineering (AOE) 2009-2010 Logo Represents Various Engineering fields likeArchitecturalCivilComputer Aided DraftingElectricalElectronicsMechanicalRoboticsTelecommunication Slogan --- Moving Forward

  7. Why To Join In AOE ? • By 2010, half of all baby boomers will be gone from the workforce. • By 2020, the other half will be retired. • According to the Federal Government we will need 15 million engineers and technology workers by 2020.

  8. National Academy Foundation - NAF How it helps AOE? • National network of high school career academies-schools within schools- predominately based in urban districts • Support with rigorous, career-themed curricula created with current industry and educational expertise. • Provide professional development opportunities to build and enhance academies. • www.naf.org

  9. Project Lead The Way Curriculum– PLTW How it helps AOE?? • PLTW is a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit corporation • PLTW works with schools to implement an instructional program to prepare students to be successful in post secondary engineering and engineering technology programs. • The primary goal of PLTW is to grow the nation’s technology workforce • www.pltw.org

  10. Project Lead The Way Curriculum – PLTW How it helps AOE?? • Math and science relevant for students. • Activities-based learning, project-based learning, and problem-based learning (or APPB-learning, for short) is key in all PLTW courses. • Research shows that schools practicing APPB-learning experience an increase in student motivation, cooperative learning skills, higher-order thinking, and student achievement.
