Just who was James Zadroga? • NYPD officer who spent 450 hours participating in therecovery and rescue operationsat the scene of 9/11 • WTC attack • Weeks after helping at the scene, he developed a respiratory disease, leaving him unable to walk further than 100m without becoming totally breathless • Zadroga wasthe first NYPD officer to have his death attributed to toxic chemical exposure at the scene of the attack • In 2004, the forgotten hero of 9/11 was awarded a settlement in excess of $1million dollars, for his injuries • It is after him, that the ZadrogaHealth & Compensation Act is named (1971 – January 5th 2006)

  3. So What is the Zadroga Health & Compensation Act? Federal legislation aimed at providing financial aid & healthcare to injured & sick 9/11 workers

Why did it take so long to come? • The Zadroga Bill was sponsored by Senator Bob Menendez & Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, but originally did not pass • A new version of the bill passed in Sept 2010, but was met by Republican opposition on December 9 2010 • Republicans would not budge until tax cuts for families who earned over $250k were passed
