    11. ASLPD EQI 2008 11 Learning In Organisations ?????? ?? ???????? Often in organisations you take action, get a result and then take the same action again (zero loop learning). This is effective for some things but not when the environment in which you take action changes This model suggests that you can use some alternative strategies to identify what you should be doing to meet our clients needs and to adapt to environmental or other change you can build in a planning process which lets us take a different view of the issue and of potential actions, but this often doesn’t mean that you take a step back and you often only do this once each year and put the resulting plan into the bottom drawer An more effective approach is double loop learning which takes the analysis of what you do as an organisation much further. It is however very complex because it requires that you test our assumptions about what you do and why you do it and to recognise behaviour that has become automatic The anxiety noted here, occurs because in undertaking this type of analysis, you have to question our individual and organisational behaviour, assumptions, beliefs, and sometimes the things that you learnt as a very small child which were ok then but which can restrict us as adults and as leaders.
