Horizontal Designs are easy to construct and work on. They are also the largest and most unwieldy of the designs.

In order to select a concept, we needed to be able to visualize the system

The dimensions of the house will not be defined until after the competition

Initially, we used 2-D methods to find the most compact design

Three dimensional models are generally easier to work with

Components sketched in CAD were to complex to arrange

The current system can be modeled in terms of “chunks”

The current hot water tank and fan coil unit may restrict the heat pump space

Our objective for the first design was to meet the geometric specifications
