Why are we doing this in our school? • Whole school approach – values based • School context for PSHE and teaching about STEM careers • Responsibility to prepare young people for their future working lives • Legislation – Equalities Act, DfE / OFSTED expectations • Fostering future hopes and aspirations

Why are we doing this in our school? • Future world – future economy • Changing work patterns – skills and attributes for 21st century • Top 10 jobs didn’t exist five years ago…the jobs your children will be doing don’t yet exist!! • Influence of new technologies • Skills and attributes your child will need for the world of work

  4. How will it be organised and taught? • Part of PHSE curriculum time • Four dedicated lesson for Year 5 • External visitors / Siemen’s employees • Working with your child at home, extending the learning, special assembly in school • Thinking about future career paths

  5. Parent partnership • First educators, role models • Involvement in your child’s learning, aspirations and future decisions • Managing change, demands of complex and ever-changing world • Difference you make in helping to develop your child’s potential

  6. Answering children’s questions • Know what to do / how to response when asked questions… • Being a good emotional ‘place’ to talk with your child • Learning together • Cultivating a growth mind-set approach to learning and aspiration

  7. What next… • Celebrating the learning in class, at home, on school website, assemblies, etc. • The start of something new and inspiring • Leading edge • Impact and difference it will make to children’s future lives
