  2. The philanthropicsector in Italy • Up to the start of ’90s the phenomenon existed but was not widely-perceived. • Between 1996 and 2005 were created the 48% of the foundations taken in census by ISTAT.

  3. Growth and diversification: 1.the bank foundations Beginning of the 1990s creation of: 88 grant-issuing foundations of banking origin, Assets (year 2008): total assets around € 48.8 bn 7 foundations with assets exceeding €1 bn 3 foundations with assets exceeding €5bn
