National College...and its relationship with the School Business Management profession • Introduction of SBM programmes in 2002 • 12,000 SBMs have undertaken at least one course to date • Evidence from research of the impact SBMs have in schools • Worked with key providers to ensure currency • Demonstration Project and Primary Partnerships • Support and guidance for Teaching Schools business leads

  4. ...more importantly? Relentlessly driven to raise the profile of the profession by: • Championing the value of SBMs with Ministers and the Department • Gained funding to deliver value for money and fit for purpose training • Deployed SBM Advocates to raise the profile of the profession within the 9 Government regions...a local approach • Facilitated practitioners’ presence around the right tables...a national approach

  5. The Changing Context • Current economic situation • Greater autonomy • Self improving system • Academy agenda • Free Schools • Teaching Schools • Etc etc etc etc.....

  6. The Changing College • DfE • Restructure • Licensing the SBM courses so that it is more responsive to the diverse range of SBMs it serves

The Art of the Possible • What do you want your future to look like? • Do you see yourself as more than a bean counter? • Are you an enabler - do you make things happen? • Do you embrace change? • Do you scan the horizon? • Do you view the challenges we face as opportunities? • How often do you take time to reflect?
