  3. Holy Apparel • Specific instructions to the women. • 1 Tim 2:9-10 • Modest = kosmios = well arranged, seemly, modest. • Propriety = aidos = a sense of shame or honour, modesty, bashfulness • Moderation = sophrosune = 1) soundness of mind 2) self-control, sobriety.

  4. Holy Apparel • Men are to take care for what they wear. • Could his apparel (or lack thereof) cause a woman to lust after him? • Men are to lift up holy hands in prayers. (1 Tim 2:8) • Cannot be done if he is guilty of leading a woman into lustful thoughts.

  5. Unholy Apparel • The opposite of holy dress would be unholy dress. • When a person dresses in a way that incites a person to lustful thoughts, that person has engaged in lascivious behavior. • (Gal 5:19)

  19. Unholy Apparel • We must recognize . . . • there are external enticements which can lead one's mind in the direction of possessing lustful and lewd thoughts. (Matthew 5:28) • The most common form of external enticements is the wearing of certain types of clothing.

  20. Conclusion • If we engage in any type of behavior that would entice another person to have lustful thoughts about us, then we have sinned. • If our apparel leads or entices another person to lustful or lewd thoughts, then we have sinned.

  21. Conclusion • If you are a women, or a young lady, then dress yourself as a woman professing godliness. • If you are a man, then please behave as one who has every intention of lifting up holy hands in prayer to God.
