  1. How To Do A Science Fair Project R.L. Thornton Elementary School Clara Daniels, Principal Natalie Crittendon, Science Fair Coordiantor

  2. Science Fair Projects Must Be EXPERIMENTS! An experiment is a test to find out something. Experiments are repeated 3 times.

  3. Beware Do not make a volcano or the Solar System. These are display projects and do not answer a scientific question! X X

  4. Scoring Judges will not score projects that do not follow the scientific method.

  5. Steps to the Scientific Method • Question / Problem • Hypothesis • Materials • Variables (4th and 5th) • Procedure • Data / Results • Conclusion

  6. Question / Problem • What do I want to find out? • What do I want to learn? ?

  7. Hypothesis Based on what I already know, what do I think will happen? This is also called a prediction.

  8. Materials This is what you will use to conduct your experiment.

  9. Variables • The variable is the one factor I wish to change (or use in different amounts). • Everything is given the exact same conditions except for one factor. This factor is my variable . • I need to explain things I did to make it a controlled experiment. • Variable are things that have an effect on the experiment.

  10. Procedure These are the steps that I follow to do my experiment. The steps have to be numbered.

  11. Data / Results • Results -This is what actually happened during this experiment. • Data -This is where I show the data in the form of a graph or chart.

  12. Conclusion • What did I learn? • Was my prediction correct or should it be rejected? • If I did this experiment again what would I do differently?
