  1. Harry Fischer Tonsillitis

  2. Description • Tonsillitis- inflammation of the palatine tonsils, causing enlargement.

  3. Causes • Tonsillitis can be caused by bacteria or by a virus. • The bacterial form is called strep throat

  4. Treatment • If it is caused by a viral infection all you can do is do what you can to comfort it and wait 7 to ten days. • If it is a bacterial infection the doctor will just give you antibiotics. • If you have re-occurring tonsillitis You might have your tonsils removed

  5. Surgery • Its called a tonsillectomy • One day surgery and about a week or more of recovery.

  6. Progression • For the doctor to decide for you to have a tonsillectomy, you would have to have around 6 episodes of tonsillitis in 1 year or 4 each year for 2 years.

  7. Tonsillar abscess • This is when a abscess forms on one of the tonsils causing pain, swelling, and blockage of the throat.

  8. Tonsillaracretion • When bacteria trapped in the tonsils hardens and calcifies. • They can be removed at home or surgically or just left alone if the symptoms aren’t bad.
