  2. THE RIVER POIL FIUME PO The Po flows in Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia Romagna and it is the most important river of Italy. This river has its source on Monviso and it flows towards the east for 652 Km running through Po valley until the Adriatic sea. The river Po takes its origin from differente sources of the Cottian Alps, the most important of those gush out at 2020 m. The waters of the Po are generally used for power station, feedings and to irrigation. Il fiume Po scorre in Piemonte, Lombardia , Veneto, Emilia Romagna ed è il più importante fiume dell’Italia. Questo fiume nasce sul Monviso e scorre verso est per 652 km attraversando la Pianura Padana fino al Mare Adriatico. Il Po ha origine da varie sorgenti delle Alpi Cozie, la principale delle quali sgorga a 2020 m. Le acque del Po sono usate soprattutto per l’alimentazione di centrali elettriche e per l’irrigazione.

The ashen heron • Scientific name: ardea cinerea • Habitat : It lives near ponds , rice-fields, canals, rivers, lakes and sea-coasts. • Physical characteristics: it has an ash-grey plumage it’s neck and it’s head is white with a black strip on the back of the neck. It’s beak is long and yellow.This kind of heron is very big. Nourishing: it feeds on frogs, fishes, reptiles, molluscs and little birds. • Nome scientifico: Ardea cinerea • Habitat: vive vicino a stagni, risaie, canali, fiumi e coste marine. • Caratteristiche fisiche: ha una livrea grigio cenere, il collo e la testa sono bianchi con una striscia nera sulla nuca. Il becco è lungo, affilato e giallastro. • L’apertura alare, nei maschi adulti, raggiunge 2 metri di ampiezza. • Si distingue dagli altri aironi per le grandi dimensioni. • Alimentazione: mangia rane, pesci, rettili, topi, molluschi e piccoli uccelli.
