  2. What’s Newest? Commission examination fees were raised by 5% Candidates registering in the 2012-13 program year will be charged the increased fee

  3. Also Notable…. CTEL and RICA are offered on computer only CSET Math is now offered on computer only Coming next to CBT: CSET English CBT Examinations are offered year-round by appointment or in testing windows

  4. Examinations Offered as Computer Based Test (CBT) Only CSET: Multiple Subjects CSET: Writing Skills CSET: Mathematics RICA: Written Examination CTEL Examination CPACE

  5. CBEST Administration CBEST is administered as both: • Paper-based: six times a year • Computer-based: year-round by appointment

  6. Other Options for Meeting Basic Skills 1. Out-of-state basic skills exams 2. CSET: MS plus CSET: Writing Skills 3. CSU Early Assessment Program (EAP) English plus Mathematics sections 4. CSU English Placement Test (EPT) plus Entry Level Mathematics (ELM) See Coded Correspondence 09-03 and Credential Alert 09-05

  7. Preliminary Administrative Credential Services Tests School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA #1010) The last SLLA #1010 administration was February 26, 2011. Passing scores acceptable for certification five years from that date.

  8. CPACE California Preliminary Administrative Credential Examination • Replaces the SLLA #1010 • CPACE-Written, three CBT windows • CPACE-Video, three submission windows (October, February, June)

  9. CPACE Passing Score Standard CPACE-Written: 220 CPACE-Video: 220 Examinees must pass both the CPACE-Written and the CPACE-Video

  10. CSET UPDATE CSET: Multiple Subjects CSET: Writing Skills CSET: Mathematics Offered as Computer-Based tests year-round and available by appointment only

CSET WORLD LANGUAGES CSET Single Subject and Bilingual Authorization subtests offered additional times during the year as paper-based examination • CSET: Spanish offered six times a year • CSET: Cantonese, Mandarin, and Korean offered four times a year • New CSET: World Language ELD examination will be available in Fall 2013

  12. RICA Reminders RICA Written Examination now administered as computer-based only, year–round by appointment RICA Video Performance Assessment will continue to have three submission deadlines

  13. California Teacher of English Learners (CTEL) Reminders • Offered only as computer-based test • Testing available during four testing windows for the 2012-2013 program year

  15. CLAD Certificate or EL Authorization CTEL Program Teachers may choose to earn an English Learner Authorization or a CLAD Certificate Both are equivalent Assembly Bill (AB) 1871

  16. Helpful CBT Site information... • See the Exams Website for a virtual tour of a standard Pearson Vue test site and preview the CBT Tutorial Enforcement of Identification Policy • Examinee without proper ID will be declined (alternative process no longer offered)

  17. Security • Cell phones are not allowed at PBT site or in the CBT testing room (possession will result in voided scores) • Medical devices, such as inhalers must have prior approval through the Alternative Testing Arrangement process • Can’t use mechanical pencils (can only use wooden #2 pencils) • Can’t wear hats or headwear (except for medical or religious purposes)

Work in Progress:Updating the TPEs The Commission has convened a panel to review the Teaching Performance Expectations (TPEs) and suggest revisions based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) Two panel meetings: September 20, October 29 Field review of updated TPEs in December 2012-January 2013 Updated TPEs to be presented for approval by the Commission in February or March 2013
