  1. Early Learning Accomplishment Profile Computer Scoring Assistant (E-Lap CSA) Catherine Mendoza May 5, 2009 3332 EDTC

  2. E-Lap Needs Assessment: • The NINOS Early Head Start Program teachers are responsible for conducting an individual assessment on each child by using the Early Learning Accomplishment Profile. Currently, teachers are administering the assessment manually and are inputting incorrect data, spending too much time figuring it out and losing key instructional time in the classroom.

  3. E-Lap Needs Assessment Con’t: • After close evaluation, it has been identified that the teachers are having the most difficulty scoring the manual version of the E-Lap assessment. It has been concluded that the teachers are in need of software that will automatically score the assessment. This in turn will leave little to no room for error.

  4. E-Lap Needs Assessment Con’t: • Consequently, our agency decided to implement the use of the Early Learning Accomplishment Profile Computer Scoring Assistant. Each teacher will be assigned a laptop with the assessment software and internet access for the web-based program. Therefore, all teachers must receive training on using the software program.

  5. Instructional Goal: • The learners will be able to login to the web-based program and complete an assessment online. The learners will also be able to generate reports to share with parents and to implement in the children’s individual education plans.

  6. Performance Objectives: After completing this training, learners will be able to: • Login and navigate the web-based program. • Access their classroom information and implement the E-Lap assessment on the web-based program. • Generate E-Lap computer software reports.

  7. Assessment of Learning Outcomes: • Each learner will be required to login to the web-based program and assess another attendee using the computer. Then the learner will generate a hardcopy of the assessment and a report for the parent.

  8. Learner Characteristics: • The target audience will be all teaching staff that will be implementing the E-Lap assessment. • Prior knowledge of electronic media including computers and handheld devices and accessing the web. Some implications of prior knowledge include the learner distorting information presented, the influence it has on learning behavior and subsequent learning result. • Fear of failure with the assessment. Fear of failure can block the discovery process in an unwanted way. Anxious learners will probably not feel comfortable using the computers and set themselves up for failure and become negative. • Motivation is needed to get or keep the learning process in motion and to concentrate. Yet it is a difficult to assess or predict.

  9. Learning Context: • The training will be provided in small groups of no more than ten participants. The participants will be in a computer lab and each behind their own computer. The training will be provided online.

  16. Training Module Blueprint:

  17. Formative Evaluation: • I will be using a peer evaluation and subject matter expert evaluation method to evaluate my design plan. • I will be submitting a copy of my design plan to class instructor for evaluation. • I will a also be emailing a copy of my design plan to at least 2 classmates for peer review.

  18. Summary • The teachers employed with NINOS EHS will be able to utilize the E-Lap computer score assistant. The learners will be able to login to the web-based program and complete an assessment online. The learners will also be able to generate reports to share with parents and to implement in the children’s individual education plans.
