  1. zClass Choose Your Own Adventure in 6th grade

  2. The school year began with Ms. Z making plans for what she wanted to accomplish with her students. She knew she wanted to teach her students right from wrong, to take responsibility for their choices, and to think for themselves. They would use technology as a tool to motivate and help them learn.

  3. Ms. Z knew that she needed to have high expectations to help them learn responsibility. She would need to state these expectations at the beginning of the year and hold the students accountable to those expectations throughout the year to prepare them for life!

  4. Therefore, she showed them ahead of time the level system and exact consequences of each misbehavior 6th graders tend to choose. She told them to practice each month to earn their bonus points, so that good habits would be in place by the end of the year when they earned their graduation party…

  5. The students made many different choices throughout the year on how to spend their time. Let’s follow a few of their choices. Cool Dudes Smart Guys Resilient Ones Ambitious Ones

  6. Cool Dudes worked with other people at the beginning of the year. They were respectful to everyone.

  7. But as the year went on they became more comfortable and able to speak their own mind. They found out how to get out of work—by creating anger and defiance. They were well liked by their friends for it. They spent a lot of extra time at school for it.

  8. However, when Luau time came around, they knew where they wanted to be. Although it took a lot of extra effort to make their choice, they put in the time to earn the Luau. Go to the Luau

  9. Smart Guys began the year as bright eyed and eager learners. They made many friends and even took the time to mentor other students as well.

  10. She had fun with her friends in class and during recess. Whenever she had missing work to finish, she finished it quickly and efficiently because she didn’t want to miss being with her friends.

  11. When it came time for the Luau, they just continued doing what they had been doing. They made it and had a great time with their friends… once again! Go to the Luau

  12. The Resilient Ones started the year excited about school and learning. They wanted to do well but got caught up in the social part of school and often got themselves off topic.

  13. They got behind on the work and discovered that the consequences of not working could be just as bad as the consequences for those who were belligerent.

  14. They consciously made a choice to complete their work in the last trimester. Not only did they get to attend the Luau, but they got to attend field day, the field trip, the softball game, and other fun things planned by the 6th grade teachers! Go to the Luau

  15. The Ambitious Ones began the school year desiring a challenge. They wanted to get better skills in 6th grade. They wanted to be accepted.

  16. Sometimes following the rules was easy; sometimes it was hard. They had to make an effort every day to not lose their bonus points. Some days they were successful; others they weren’t.

  17. In the end, their days of being successful paid off. They earned the Luau with their behavior each and every day by practicing all year long. They loved it because they earned it! Go to the Luau

  18. Go back and read other stories Where are you going to choose to be?
