  1. 2010 – 2011 End of year Shutdown Safety activities Safety shifts organization

  2. Activities related to Safety • Sniffer maintenance (all experiments) • FPIAA support maintenance • Experimental area safety lines maintenance • Implementation of the new ODH/ Evacuation matrix for point 1 • General safety systems maintenance (ODH, FG, Fire, Evacuation,..) • DSS software update and test all alarm/action matrixes • Water leak or Smoke detection upgrades (to be analyzed) • Foam system maintenance (?) • SSA / LASS annual maintenance • DSO tests (2 days) , … • RPE / RPA shifts • Patrollers shifts (?) • SLIMOS shifts • Safety team shifts

  3. Radioprotection strategy Shutdown Day 1 : • Buffer zone ready to receive material in SX1 • UX15 general RP survey • Collect of some of the material sampling (ID) and spectroscopy analysis to control the RP calculations The results of the material samples analysis will determine the need to wear or not protective equipment (masks, gloves ,..). This is not expected today • Classification of the radioactive waste area with RP (inform all concerned teams) • Definition of the operational radioactive zone (inform all the concerned teams)

  4. RPE / RPA interventions • At each relevant step of the opening scenario and detectors activities, RPE / RP will intervene to do RP measurements and collect dust for analysis. • RPE will be in charged to measure, trace and assist transport of all material coming from the radioactive waste area. • Note that additional persons from the intervening teams and from safety team will be trained to perform RP measurement and traceability for the material coming from the conventional area. Reminder : all material exiting the radioactive and operational zones shall not exit the Toroid area, shall be transported via crane to the radioactive buffer zone on surface, shall be removed and transported under RPE supervision

  5. RPE / RPA interventions • The RPE major interventions schedule will be agreed with Michel for the opening scenarios and the detectors activity responsible. • The activity responsible will communicate the detailed schedule at least 1 hour before the beginning of the required intervention • The detailed opening scenario will be daily updated by Michel and accessible through the ATLAS web pages

  6. RPE / RPA interventions RPE shifts proposal From 6.12 to 29.12: shifts of 2 days including weeks end and holidays. From 29.12 to end of the shutdown: shifts of 5 days including week end and holidays

  7. Safety team assistance • The presence of safety team in situ to assist the intervening teams and control safety conditions is mandatory. • We need presence during the major interventions and at least few hours per days. • During the Xmas shutdown, some specific safety and infrastructure systematic checks could be added. Safety team shifts proposal: During all shutdown: 2 days shifts including week ends and hollidays. Concerned persons : Safety team, ADO engineers, TSOs, Safety officers. Specific training and instructions will be provided.

  8. SLIMOS During all shutdown period : 2 SLIMOS shifts per day (nights covered by OPM) Beginning of shift at least ½ hour before the Access team shifts End of shift at least ½ hour after the Access team shifts
