  1. VHT Capabilities and Operation elements and VHTC field Date: 2010-11-08 Authors: Yong Liu, Marvell

  2. Contents • VHT Capabilities element • VHT Operation element • VHT Control field Yong Liu, Marvell

  3. VHT Capabilities element Yong Liu, Marvell

  4. HT Capabilities element • The HT Capabilities element is present when dot11HighThroughputOptionImplemented attribute is true • The HT Capabilities element contains a number of fields that are used to advertise optional HT capabilities of an HT STA • The HT Capabilities element is present in Beacon, Association Request, Association Response, Reassociation Request, Reassociation Response, Probe Request, and Probe Response frames • An HT STA declares that it is an HT STA by transmitting the HT Capabilities element • HT BSS is a BSS in which Beacon frames transmitted by an HT station (STA) include the HT Capabilities element Yong Liu, Marvell

  5. VHT Capabilities element • What capabilities are included in VHT Capabilities element? • Capabilities for VHT but not for HT; and • Capabilities for both HT and VHT, but have different definitions and/or scopes for HT and VHT; and • Capabilities for both HT and VHT, and need to be set independently for HT and VHT • A VHT STA declares that it is a VHT STA by transmitting both the VHT Capabilities element and HT Capabilities element Yong Liu, Marvell

  6. Capabilities Info: HT vs. VHT (Change) (Change) (Change) (OK) (OK) (Change) (TBD) (TBD) (Change) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) Yong Liu, Marvell

  7. Other fields: HT vs. VHT (Change) (OK) (Change) (TBD) (TBD) Yong Liu, Marvell

  8. VHT Capabilities element x: 0-7 => 2(13+x) -1 B 00: No support for 160MHz and 80+80MHz 01: Support 160MHz 10: Support 80+80MHz 11: reserved 00: 3839B 01: 7935B 10: 11414B 11: rsvd Support at least 2x1 STBC Yong Liu, Marvell

  9. Pre-motion 1 • Should the spec framework document be updated to include a VHT Capabilities element defined in slide 8? • Yes • No • Abstain Yong Liu, Marvell

  10. VHT Operation element Yong Liu, Marvell

  11. HT Operation element • The HT Operation element is included by an AP when dot11HighThroughputOptionImplemented attribute is true. • The operation of HT STAs in the BSS is controlled by the HT Operation element. Yong Liu, Marvell

  12. Operation element: HT vs. VHT (Change) (Change) (Change) (Change) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) (TBD) Yong Liu, Marvell

  13. VHT Operation Element • Note that the primary/secondary channels are indicated in the HT operation element 0: 20MHz 1: 40MHz 2: 80MHz 3: 160MHz 4: 80+80MHz Channel number corresponding to the center frequency for 20/40/80/160MHz or 1st segment of 80+80MHz Channel number corresponding to the center frequency for 2nd segment of 80+80MHz; set to 0 for 20/40/80/160MHz Yong Liu, Marvell

  14. Pre-motion 2 • Should the spec framework document be updated to include a VHT Operation element defined in slide 13? • Yes • No • Abstain Yong Liu, Marvell

  15. VHTC field Yong Liu, Marvell

  16. 11n HTC field • The HT Control field is always present in a Control Wrapper frame and is present in QoS Data and management frames as determined by the Order bit of the Frame Control field Yong Liu, Marvell

  17. VHTC field (1) (TBD) (TBD) VHT-MFB Change it to “HT/VHT”: 0: HTC 1: VHTC Yong Liu, Marvell

  18. VHTC field (2) • The HT/VHT Control field is always present in a Control Wrapper frame and is present in QoS Data and management frames as determined by the Order bit of the Frame Control field • An HT/VHT subfield is added to the HT/VHT control field • The HT/VHT subfield (TBD) is set to 0 to indicate an HTC field • The HT/VHT subfield (TBD) is set to 1 to indicate a VHTC field Yong Liu, Marvell

  19. Pre-motion 3 • Should the spec framework document be updated to define HT/VHT control field as in slide 18? • Yes • No • Abstain Yong Liu, Marvell
