What is DegreeWorks? • The leading advising and degree audit software package (integrated with Banner) that will replace CAPP Degree Progress Reports. • A user-friendly, personalized advising and degree audit tool used by faculty, staff and students. Sometimes referred to as an advising GPS, a Graduation Positioning System. • A consistent source of degree requirements that allows advisors and students to plan future term courses providing departments with information needed to project course enrollment needs.

  4. What can DegreeWorks do for PSU? • Support efforts to promote student success, retention and reduced time to degree by delivering accurate and timely degree requirement information by providing a single source of information. • Provide a real-time and easy to read progress report with the option to print a user friendly PDF version of the report. • Decrease the volume of Student Requests that result from course selection errors and lack of access to required courses. • Speed the completion of the degree checking process each term.

  5. What can DegreeWorks do for PSU? (part 2) • Provide interactive “what if” major planning. • Provide students, faculty and advisors the ability to record and share advising notes. • Provide students, faculty and advisors with the ability to drill down from the audit into Banner for access to course descriptions as well as current schedule information including seat availability. • Provide multiple GPA calculators that allow students and advisors to determine in advance the grades required to meet specific GPA requirements. • Provide Department Chairs and others with timely actionable information for use in projecting course section needs.

PHASE I • Population • UG students that entered Fall 2011 under the 2011-2012 Catalog. • UG students entering Fall 2012 under the 2012-2013 Catalog. • Students that entered before Fall 2011 will not use DegreeWorks. • Phase I Timeline • March 1, 2013: Faculty, Staff & Student Training • April 5, 2013: Advising for Fall 2013 registration. • Students in Phase I population and their advisors will use DegreeWorks for course selection. • June 2013: students entering Fall 2013 will be trained in use of DegreeWorksat June Orientation.

PHASE II • Implementation at the graduate level. • Review of DegreeWorks functionality in the transfer area. • Implementation of DegreeWorks audits for financial aid and athletic eligibility. • Implementation of Banner workflow to automate processing of Student Requests within DegreeWorks. • Implementation of IM solution for use in advising students in On-line programs.

Critical Success Factors - Students • Students need to be introduced to DegreeWorks at orientation as THE critical advising tool available to them. • DegreeWorks should become part of a new student’s world from the first day of their first semester at PSU. • It’s where they go to see how their transfer credit was applied. • It’s where they go when planning course selection for the next semester. • It’s where they go when grades are posted to evaluate their progress towards their degree objective. • It’s where they go to perform a “what if” analysis when considering a major or change of major.

  13. Critical Success Factors - Advisors • Universal adoption of DegreeWorks for advising students on program requirements and course selection. • Promoting the regular use of DegreeWorks by advisees from their first semester at PSU. • Use of DegreeWorks in advising sessions. • Commitment to an understanding that the DegreeWorks is the “database of record” and the definitive statement of a student’s program requirements and her/his progress towards graduation.
