The invention of the telephone • In the 1870s, two inventors Elisha gray and Alexander Graham Bell both independently designed devices that could transmit speech electriclly (the telephone) A crank telephone produced a voltage that operated a relay on the Operator's switchboard that would drop a little flag and indicate to the operator that you wanted to make a call.

  3. Switchboard operators • The switchboard operators were invented on 1921 in omahanebraska. The number of callers soon increased. By 1946 nearly a quarter million switch board operators were employed by at&t. switchboard operators were used by converting sound waves into electrical signals , and electrical signals into sound waves

  10. Cordless phone • The cordless phone invented in the 1980 and was convenient because it had no cord so you wouldnt have to put the phone down when you leave the room

  11. Mobile/cellular phone • The Mobile/cellular phone came out in 1983 and was very big and blocky. It was also hard to carry around due to its size

  12. Candy bar phone • The candy bar phone came out in the 1990s and was a lot smaller and more compact then the 1983 mobile/cellular phone

  13. Flip phones • The flip phone was released in the early 2000s and was slimmer then any mobile phone before it

  14. Keyboard phones • The keyboard phone was the first phone with a full keyboard that made it easy to send text messages

  15. Smart phones The smart phone was a big jump from the cell phones before it because you could send emails and use the web wile on your phone

  16. The touch phone/ iphone • The touch phone or iphone is the latest cell phone today and has a full keyboard web surfing , email, facebook, gps , mapping systems, games and more .
