1. Mateo13:1 - 9 1 Un día salió Jesús de la casa donde se hospedaba y se sentó a la orilla del mar. 2 Se reunió en torno suyo tanta gente, que él se vio obligado a subir a una barca, donde se sentó, mientras la gente permanecía en la orilla.

2. 3 Entonces Jesús les habló de muchas cosas en parábolas y les dijo:“Una vez salió un sembrador a sembrar, 4 y al ir arrojando la semilla, unos granos cayeron a lo largo del camino; vinieron los pájaros y se los comieron. 5 Otros granos cayeron en terreno pedregoso, que tenía poca tierra; ahí germinaron pronto, porque la tierra no era gruesa;

3. 6 pero cuando subió el sol, los brotes se marchitaron y, como no tenían raíces, se secaron. 7 Otros cayeron entre espinos, y cuando los espinos crecieron, sofocaron las plantitas. 8 Otros granos cayeron en tierra buena y dieron fruto: unos, ciento por uno; otros, sesenta; y otros, treinta.

6. Matthew13:1 - 9 1 On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea. 2 Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.

7. 3 And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. 4 And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. 5 Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep,

8. 6 and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. 7 Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. 8 But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

11. Reflections on Jeremiah 1:1 - 10 Reflexiónes en Jeremias 1:1 - 10 by Fr. Sam Rosales, S.J. July 23, 2008 The call of Jeremiah was unusual and spectacular. We need to examine it because it teaches us something about the call of all of us in general. Our though our call may not be so distinctive, it is there for us to discern.

12. La llamada de Jeremías fue algo extraordinario y espectacular. Necesitamos examinarla porque tiene mucho que enseñarnos acerca de nuestra propia llamada. Probablemente nuestra llamada no sea tan espectacular, sin embargo es necesario discernir propiamente, para saber que es los que Dios espera de mí.

13. Jeremiah tells us that God knew him even before he was born, in the womb. Perhaps those who commit abortion need to read this line and pray about it. It shows that there is life in the womb before birth. It is a human person from the moment of conception. But God loves it eternally.

14. Jeremías nos dijo que Dios lo conoció hasta antes de que naciera, en el seno de su madre. Los que cometen aborto necesitan leer esta línea y rezar. Indica que hay vida en el seno desde antes de nacer. La persona humana esta presente desde el primer momento de concepción. Pero Dios la conoce eternamente.

15. To know someone in the scriptures is to love that person. God loved Jeremiah even before he was born. He was chosen to be a prophet. God also loves each one of us from all eternity. And he calls us by design for a certain role in life. By Baptism we partake of the gift of prophecy. It varies in degrees.

16. Conocer a alguien en la escritura es amarlo. Dios amo a Jeremías desde antes que naciera. Fue escogido a ser profeta. Sabemos que no solo él sino que también toda persona bautizada participa en ese don de profecía. Todos estamos llamados a ser testigos del amor de Dios y hablar de ello. El deseo de hacer esto viene en diferentes grados. Depende de Dios y de ti.

17. The call of Jeremiah was to be a prophet to the nations to which God appointed him. It is interesting to see that Jeremiah protested: “Ah, Lord God!” “I know not how to speak; I am too young.” And the Lord said: “Say not, “I am too young.” To whomever I send you, you shall go; whatever I command you, you shall speak.” So Jeremiah was not rejected because he spoke out in protest. God loved him anyway. I find great consolation in that. And so should you if you are sometimes reluctant to obey God on the spot.

18. La llamada de Jeremías era de ser profeta a las naciones a las cuales Dios lo mando. Jeremías protestó. “¡Ay, Señor mí Dios!” “Yo no sé hablar; Soy muy joven.” Pero el Señor le dijo: “No digas, “Soy muy joven.” A cualquiera que Yo te mande, iras, y lo que yo te mande decir, lo dirás.” De modo que Jeremías no fue rechazado por haber protestado. Dios lo amo de todas maneras. Yo encuentro consolación en ese punto. Y también todo aquel que a veces protesta esto o aquello.

19. And God said: “Have no fear before them, because I am with you to deliver you.” Wow! The Lord then extended his hand and touched his mouth and told him: “I place my words in your mouth! I set you over nations and over kingdoms, to root up and to tear down, to destroy and to demolish, to build and to plant.” Jeremiah knew God was with him to deliver him. Awesome!

20. Y Dios le dijo: “No temas delante de ellos, porque estoy contigo para librarte.” “El Señor extendió su mano y tocó su boca y le dijo: “Mira que te he puesto en este día sobre naciones y sobre reinos, para arrancar y para destruir, para arruinar y para derribar, para edificar y para plantar.” ¡Magnifico!

21. When someone is afraid to answer God’s call, remember this passage. God is with us always. His name is Emmanuel, God with us. St Paul says: “The Spirit of the Lord is not of timidity but a spirit of power, and love, and self-control” (2 Timothy 1:7). Bind fear in the Name of Jesus and cast it out. And pray to know what else to say. It is in the mind of God. You have to put on the mind of Christ (Philippians 2:5) so as to know what He wants. Put it to the Lord in prayer, and he will surely let you know.

22. Cuando alguien tiene miedo responderle a Dios cuando lo llama, hay que recordar este pasaje. Dios siempre está con nosotros. Su nombre es Emmanuel, “Dios esta con nosotros.” San Pablo dice: “El Espirito de Dios no es de timidez sino que de poder, amor, y control de sí mismo” (2 Timoteo 1:7). Ata al miedo en el Nombre de Jesús y lánzalo fuera. Y reza para saber que más decir. Está en la mente de Dios. Hay que pensar como Dios piensa (Filipenses 2:5), para saber lo que Él quiere. Ponte en oración, y el aseguradamente te mostrara su santa voluntad.

23. If at first you don’t succeed in discerning, look for a spiritual director, preferably one the Church has approved. He will help you discern. It is necessary that he have holiness and knowledge of the spiritual life, plus experience in the things of God. Remember St. Teresa of Avila, who said it is good to have someone who is holy as a guide. But it is better to have someone who also has knowledge of the spiritual life. She suffered much at the hands of holy guides who did not know what they were doing.

24. Si has tenido dificultad en encontrar la voluntad de Dios, busca un director espiritual. Es preferible que sea aprobado por la Iglesia. Es buena idea que tenga conocimiento de la vida espiritual, santidad de vida, y experiencia. Esto aprendemos de Santa Teresa de Ávila, que sufrió mucho con directores espirituales santos, pero que no tenían conocimiento de la vida espiritual.

25. All of this calls for faith, or confidence. Confidence is a gift of God. Pray for it often. It comes within a community of believers, (eklesia in Greek), who love you and are there for you no matter what. It is so important to participate in such a prayer community.

26. Todo esto se trata de tener fe, o confianza. La confianza es un don de Dios. Pídele a Dios muchas veces por este don. Ordinariamente viene dentro de una comunidad de creyentes que se aman y se aceptan sin condiciones. Es muy importante participar en tal comunidad. Nota: La palabra “iglesia” viene del Griegoeklesiaque quiere decir “comunidad de creyentes.”

27. The word for faith is fides. And the Latin for “with” is con. So to have confidence is to have faith. “Faith is an assurance of things not seen” (Hebrews 11.1). The roots to this word are (a) to consider likely or probable; and (b) to accept as true quite without reason; that is, with insufficient proof.

28. En Latín la palabra para fe es fides. Y entonces tener confianza es tener fe.“La fe es la certeza de lo que se espera, la convicción de lo que no se ve” (Hebreos 11:1). Las raíces de esta palabra son (a) considerar algo como probable, y (b) aceptar como verdadero aunque no necesariamente con razón; es decir, sin suficiente prueba.

29. Therefore to believe is to become acquainted with someone in loving self-donation. Trust is a necessary element of love. Also, there is a certain amount of risk involved. The Lord often complained that the apostles did not have enough faith “O ye of little faith” (Matthew 14:31).

30. Entonces, creer en alguien es conocerlo y entregarse a el/ella con confianza. El amor tiene un elemento de confianza. También, tiene algo de riesgo. El Señor en repetidas veces se quejaba cuando notaba que los apóstoles no le tenían fe; les decía “Hombres de poca fe” (Mateo 14:31).

31. St. Teresa of Avila says: “you have to guess at what God wants.” But it is an informed guess. It is a hunch. Having known God and what he is like, it is only to be expected that He will continue to be the same as what you have known. Plus, if you have studied the Word of God, in the bible, and prayed much, in your heart, you will know the call of the Lord when He comes to you.

32. Santa Teresa de Ávila decía: “A Dios se le adivina.” Es tener una idea de algo. Al conocer a Dios a profundas te das cuenta como es, que le parece bien, etc. Ya sabes que esperar de Él. Y sabes que le complace. Te das cuenta como actúa. Y esperas que siga siendo igual queayer. Si has estudiado la Palabra de Dios, y si has rezado lo suficiente, en tu corazón te vas a dar cuenta cuando el Señor venga a visitarte. Busca la paz interior. Ahí esta Él.

33. Do not be afraid. Trust in the Lord. Talk to Jesus heart to heart. Then decide, even though you have not figured everything out. Some things you learn as you go. You build a path as you walk on it. Samuel the prophet received his call in his sleep: “Samuel, Samuel.” And he responded: “Speak, Lord, your servant is listening” (1 Samuel 3:10). Let us all have the same response to God’s call.

34. No tengas miedo. Confía en el Señor. Platícale al Señor de corazón a corazón. Luego se hace la decisión, aunque quizás no se haya figurado todo. Hay ciertas cosas que solo se aprenden al ir andando. El camino se forma al caminar en él. Samuel el profeta recibió su llamada al estar dormido en el Templo: “Samuel, Samuel.” Él respondió: “Habla, Señor, que tu siervo te escucha” (1 Samuel 3:10). Tratemos de hacer lo mismo.

35. Pope Benedict XVI in his visit to USA (2008) said to the young people who were considering what to do with their lives: “What is God whispering to you? …Nourished by personal prayer, prompted by silence, shaped by the Church’s liturgy, you will discover the particular vocation God has for you. Embrace it with joy!”

36. El Papa Benedicto XVI en su visita a los EEUU en 2008 dijo a la juventud que estaba considerando que hacer con sus vidas: “¿Qué te esta diciendo el Señor en voz baja?” ...Alimentado por la oración personal, conmovido en el silencio, formado por la liturgia de la Iglesia, descubrirás la vocación particular que Dios tiene para ti. ¡Abrázala con gozo!”
