Remote Service Delivery National Partnership Agreement The National Partnership Agreement on Remote Service Delivery (NPA RSD) : it establishes a place-based approach; it covers 29 communities across Australia (15 in the NT) aims to improve government service delivery and coordination; encourages Indigenous people to actively participate in decisions; and utilises the Single Government Interface (SGI) approach for planning and delivery.

  4. RSD National Partnership Objectives Improve the access of Indigenous families to a full range of suitable and culturally inclusive services. Raise the standardand range of services delivered to Indigenous families to be broadly consistent with those provided to other Australians in similar sized and located communities. Improve the level of governanceand leadership within Indigenous communities and Indigenous community organisations. Provide simpler access and better coordinated government services for Indigenous people in identified communities. Increase economicand social participation wherever possible, and promote personal responsibility, engagement and behaviours consistent with positive social norms.

  8. Engagement cont… • Communities have been talking to about economic development for many years • Each community is individual, diverse and dynamic There are varied and embedded interests from the various stakeholder groups that need to be recognised and supported

Engagement Success Factors Be honest and transparent with the community and government by giving clear parameters and managing expectations on likely outcomes Enter into dialogue through social network systems which respect culture Participate, not control – and have locally based teams Be prepared - understand the community and government needs, aspirations and actions from years of engagement Be flexible – the process of engagement needs to be responsive and logical from a community perspective; Be honest and frank about the history and the now, so we can move toward the future Keep all stakeholders informed as best you can
