  2. Re-Assignment of Student OveragesAdjust all class size by accommodating overages in other classes within the school as long as the student’s educational program remains consistent. i.e. Regular Education, Bilingual, ESL, and Special Education.  Identify the students who cannot be accommodated using the following criteria: The last student who entered is the first student out (by enrollment date). Make contact with the placement officer that has been assigned to THE GRADE, and fax or e-mail the overage list to this person (refer to Staff Directory on page two of THE guide, to identify the correct placement officer). The registration center fax number is 278-0553. The placement officer will re-assign the students and fax the list back to your school. The Registration Center will send a letter to the parents advising them of the new school assignment.Special Attention: Siblings must remain together and are excluded from this process.

  3. Procedures for Reporting NO SHOWS “5-day rule”1. Students assigned to your school who have not reported to school during the first five consecutive days should be placed in a “NS” home room, on the 5th day of school by 10:00 AM. Please make sure to research ALL NO SHOW STUDENTS.2. The principal’s designee must attempt to contact these students. After all attempts have failed, an A-8 form must be submitted to the appropriate home visitor.3. In the REG system, please CHANGE the student’s homeroom to “NS”. You are not to change the student’s grade, program type, or status. They are to remain active in your school until the research has been completed.

  4. 4. Please note that the student must have missed the first five-consecutive days of school, prior to being classified as a “NS” –no show- (IMPORTANT: All students have 5 days from the initial placement date to show up for school. (This date is located at the top right hand corner of the center’s front cover sheet, or at the top left hand corner of the placement letter.)5. Please report the NS students to all teachers in each classroom and print a new class list from the REG SYSTEM. (This list will reflect all changes and will not include “NS” students.)

  5. 6. Students reporting to your building with a homeroom code NS between days 5-10 should be accommodated if space is available in your school. Please coordinate this with the placement officer that has been assigned to your school. You should contact the placement officer via telephone or e-mail, and that person will assist you in determining if a seat is still available. If the placement officer has determined that the seat is no longer available for a student arriving to your school after the 10th day, the student must be sent back to the center for re-assignment. 7. Seats that become available through the No Show “5-day rule” will be filled with students who are on the waiting list for that school using the procedures outlined on page seven of this guide.

  6. 8. The waiting list is monitored daily and transfer priority is established by the order and criteria outlined in page seven of this guide.9. THE NO SHOW “5-DAY RULE” ONLY APPLIES TO THE FIRST 5 DAYS OF CLASSES DURING THE MONTH OF SEPTEMBER AND AGAIN UPON RETURNING FROM VACATION IN JANUARY!
