List the letters of the events below in the correct order in which the events occurred. • A) Spain establishes an Empire in the Americas • B) Christopher Columbus and his three ships reach the Americas • C) Paleo-Indians migrate across the Bering Land Bridge to the Americas • D) The decline of Spain’s power enables other countries to establish colonies in North America. • E) European merchants began searching for sea routes to Africa and Asia

  3. Write in Composition Books • A year ago in 1609, you moved to the colony of Virginia. Life here has been difficult. During the winter many people died of cold and sickness. Food is always scarce. Now it is spring, and a ship has come bringing supplies. In a week, it will sail home. Some of your neighbors are giving up and returning to England. They ask you to come too. Would you take the ship back? List some reasons to STAY and reasons to GO.

Southern Colony Post Cards Create 3 colonial picture postcards • On the FRONT: create a “I am here” map showing the location of the colony, the date it was founded, and its main settlements. • On the BACK:list facts about the colony • Use your notes from today AND your textbook (chapter 3, section 1: pages 72-77) • There is a colonial map on page 89.
