  2. Specific Objective Question • Consider the influence of the U.S. Constitution on the political systems in contemporary world.

  3. The U.S. Constitution has influenced political systems throughout the world. Principle: • Federalism Definition: • The national government and the states government share power. In the U.S. Constitution: • Powers are shared between the national government and the 50 states government. In the World Today: • In South Africa, power is shared between the national government and the government of the nine provinces.

  4. The U.S. Constitution has influenced political systems throughout the world cont. Principle: • Separations of Power Definition: • Government roles are divided among different branches, with no one branch holding all the power In the U.S. Constitution: • There are three branches of government: • Legislative (Congress) • Executive (The President) • Judicial ( The Courts) In the World Today: • South Korea has three branches of government: • Parliament • A court System • President

Principle: • Popular Sovereignty Definition: • The government gets its authority from the people and reflects their will. In the U.S. Constitution: • The Preamble says,” We the people of the United States… do ordain and establish this Constitution…” which indicates that government power comes from the people. In the World Today: • The Japanese Constitution begins by saying that the government's power comes from the people and shall be used by them for only their own benefit.

In the U.S. Constitution: • The Bill of Rights guarantees freedom of speech, religion, the press, and other rights. In the World Today: • The United Nations Declaration of Human Rights says that" all human beings are born free and equal” and should have certain rights.
