  2. Warm-up • Do you think the United States is the most powerful nation in the world? Why or Why not?

  3. After WWII • The United States had helped win the war and had suffered relatively minimal damage. • The United States had also been able to restart its economy and by the end of the war had one of the most powerful economies in the world. • It also one of the largest military forces, and was not longer an isolationist power.

  4. Thought question • Was the United States more powerful after WWII or is it more powerful now? Why do you believe this?

  5. Would you help Europe Rebuild after the war? • Europe had been ravaged by the war and most of its economies were in bad shape. • In addition, Germany had been completely destroyed and needed to be rebuilt. • What would be your plan to rebuild Europe?

  6. Realism vs. Idealism • What does it mean to be realistic? • What does it mean to be idealistic?

  7. Marshall Plan • Read the Article about the Marshall Plan. Answer the following questions. • 1. What was the Marshall Plan? • 2. Why did Stalin criticize the program? • 3. How did the Marshall Plan help the United States? • 4. Was the plan realist or idealist?

  8. Exit Slip • Write an editorial. Argue whether you think the Marshall Plan was realist or idealistic. In addition, do you think the Marshall Plan was successful? Please answer these questions in a well-formed paragraph!
