  1. EFFICIENT Research Making the most of your time in the media center and your time researching on the computer

  2. KNOW what resources are available to you! • Books – use the card catalog to find a book that might work for you • If you find a book that won’t work – either shelve it CORRECTLY or ask Mrs. B for help • Computers • Electronic Library – make sure you know how to access the electronic library from a computer away from school! • Internet

  3. Know HOW to search • Key words, key words, key words, key words • STOP and THINK about the words you’re using to search for information • Be broad….then NARROW IT DOWN • Don’t search using whole sentences or phrases • Think about other ways to say things – ASK others to help you think about other ways to say things

  4. Internet VS Databases • What’s the difference? • Benefits of electronic library • EVERYTHING is reliable • Easy to cite • Easy to search • Benefits of Internet • TONS of information….if you know how to find the good stuff • Wikipedia is a GREAT SPRINGBOARD to other information

  5. Taking Notes and Citing Sources • BEWARE the “copy the paste”! • BAD WRITING • Plagiarism • Cite all your sources – not just in a works cited page (or bibliography) but also IN your paper • Use the citations available on the databases and resources

  6. Use your time WISELY in the media center • Stay on task • I DON’T want to be the personal conversation police….I have work to do, so be responsible and work on what you’re supposed to be working on! • You have several days in here, take advantage of them!
