  1. Bob Fosse Born: June 23, 1927 in Chicago, IL Died: September 23, 1987 Bob Fosse was a director & choreographer who changed the way audiences viewed dance on the stage and in movies. He developed a signature jazz dance style that is still recognizable today. Notable distinctions of his style include the use of turned-in knees, sideways shuffling, rolled shoulders and jazz hands. His greatest influence was Fred Astaire. Bob Fosse’s dance moves included props such as bowler hats, canes, and chairs. During his lifetime, he won eight Tony Awards for choreography and one Tony Award for direction. Bob Fosse was nominated for four Academy Awards, and won one. His most popular works include Chicago, Pippin, Sweet Charity, Kiss Me Kate, and All That Jazz. Bob Fosse passed away at the age of 60 from a heart attack. Bob Fosse’s influence is still visible today. Many current dancers use his style. You can see his dance moves throughout the movie “Chicago”. Beyonce Knowles also used his dance style for her 2008 video “Put a Ring On It”. Although Bob Fosse may be gone, his unique dance style continues to influence today’s choreographers and dancers.
