  2. Manuals This training does NOT replace the requirement of thoroughly reading and being familiar with the appropriate Test Administrator Manual and identifying the correct section of the manual for the specific administration, as well as the December Update.

  3. Standards • Student did not meet Level 2:  REQUIRED to Retest • Student met minimum score, but did NOT meet Level 2:  Recommended to Retest, but not required • Student met LEVEL 2  Can OPT to retest • Student met LEVEL 3  Can OPT to retest Precoded labels will be provided for any student that has not met Level 2 and previously tested within our district.

  4. Who is testing? • Students who are in a course that has an EOC test and are going to earn WHOLE course credit in the first semester whether it is STAAR or STAAR Modified (if the test is available). • Students who passed the EOC test in May or July at a Level 2 or higher and have opted to retest. • Students who earned credit in May/June and tested in May/July that DID NOT score at a Level 2 will receive a label, however: • If a student is scheduled to test and is absent you code them A - absent; • If a student MET MINIMUM but has stated they do NOT want to RETEST, you VOID their answer document.

  5. Schedule All English Reading and Writing dates CANNOT be changed! Dates set by TEA.

  6. Additional Orders Deadline  Review your test materials order  Determine if you will need additional materials ADDITIONAL ORDER DEADLINE: Friday, November 16th by noon All test materials ready for pick up when we return from Thanksgiving Break.

Something to Think About…… Scheduling Issues • More than one test session a day: • AM session 8:30-12:30 All extra time students would have to start at 8:30 • PM session 1:30-5:30 Can go beyond the school day for afternoon sessions • Use the same test administrators for bothtest sessions. • Student Overlaps: • If scheduling more than one test session a day, are there students that would test in AM and then again in PM?

  8. STAAR Scheduling Reminders • English dates are set by the state and CANNOT be changed. • English I, II, and III Writing can be combined for make-ups. • English I, II, and III Reading can be combined for make-ups. • Other subject area tests can be combined together.

  9. Test Administrator Directions * NEW UPDATES * • December Supplement to the 2012 STAAR EOC Test Administrator Directions • Ensure test administrator are reading new updated directions!

  10. Test Administrator Directions TA directions are the SAME for: • STAAR • STAAR L • STAAR Modified But be sure TA reads correct call out boxes for specific test subject and type.

  11. Test Administrator Directions TA MUST know what students they are testing PRIOR to testing day! Directions require TA to read specific call out boxes for different tests and are dependent upon student population.

Test Administrator Directions • Must ALWAYS be followed VERBATIM, absolutely NO deviation. • Students must write their first and last name on test booklet and booklet number onto answer document. • Manual states when the 4-hour time limit begins and notated on seating chart. • Booklet and form numbers MUST be on seating charts.

  14. Calculators According to the TEA calculator policy, students taking any EOC below must be issued a calculator: • Algebra I • Geometry • Algebra II • Biology • Chemistry • Physics Calculator memories are cleared BEFORE and AFTER testing.

  15. Calculator Types and Quantities • Graphing Calculator for EACH student: • Algebra I • Geometry • Algebra II • Graphing OR Scientific Calculator for EACH student: • Chemistry • Physics • Calculator available for every 5 students: • Biology

Oral Administration TA MUST: • read Appendix C for specific directions, • sign the “Viewing Secure Content” section of their oath, • explain level of reading support to student prior to beginning test, and • have same test booklet form number as student STAAR, L, and M MUST be tested separately for OA.

  17. Oral Administration Level of reading support: • ALL questions and answer choices. • PART questions and answer choices. • Option to CHANGE reading level support during the administration at student request.

  18. Oral Administration • For any math, science, or social studies test, the TA must read aloud the test questions and answer choices in the order they are presented. The test question must be read aloud prior to reading the answer choices. • Any words, numbers, or symbols that appear on the state-supplied math or science reference materials or on an allowable supplemental aid may be read aloud to an eligible student.

TA Required Materials • TA Manual + Updated Directions (flagged or highlighted to indicate correct section of administration) • Student Rosters • Verification Absence Form • Seating Charts • Accommodations Envelopes (with appropriate and correct materials) • Optional Materials: • Scratch paper – see definition in OTPM • Blank index cards or post-its • Highlighters

Testing Time • Begin testing no later than 9:30 AM. • Late arrivals AFTER 9:30 AM will be held over for a second session. • Have TA prepared for second sessions • Second group monitored at all times • Second group eats lunch BEFORE releasing first group Late arriving students placed in testing rooms AND testing by 1:30 PM. Must be separate room from students in AM session. If students arrive late for PM session, they can test on designated make-up day.

  21. Accommodation Type 2: Extra Time • Must start by 9:30 AM • Students do NOT test at noon if they arrive late. • Late arrivals will test on make-up day.

  24. Accommodations Coding Accommodations for Students with Disabilities • Blank bubble for accommodation not specifically listed. Refer to TA manual page 104 for accommodation codes.

  26. Material Return • Sort EACH SUBJECT AREA test booklets by type: • Algebra I • Algebra I Modified • Algebra I L • Band answer documents by type: • Algebra I (include L in this band) • Algebra I Modified *Refer to handout for materials return.*

  27. Paper Banding • Band answer documents by 100. • Do NOT band over 100. • Place hand grids behind header sheets. • Only 1 GREEN header sheet required! • Complete PACKAGE _____ OF ______ on paper band correctly!

  28. Material Return ALL English I, II, AND III answer documents sorted by type and in SEPARATE BOX!

  29. EVERYTHING DUE: FRIDAY, DECEMBER 7TH by 4:30 PM
