  2. At the last Partnership Board the DPG’s were asked: • To list the 3 most important things your DPG does • Is there a way your DPG saves money? (Give an example)

  3. Ashford DPG • Linking up with different agencies and holding local government and Government departments to account • Providing information and signposting people • Speaking up for people with learning disabilities and carers

  4. Ashford DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Cutting back on administration and working smarter

  5. Dartford DPG and Gravesend DPG • Community engagement • Listening to people with learning disabilities and family carers • Working well with Advocacy Groups

  6. Dartford DPG and Gravesend DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Exploring the idea of joining Dartford and Gravesend DPG meetings together Reducing office costs and sharing equipment

  7. Maidstone DPG • Pop-in Meeting • A hub for people being able to access services and being signposted on where to get help • Speaking Up and Family Carer Groups

  8. Maidstone DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Help people with a pre assessment opportunity to make sure that when someone has a Needs Assessment they are prepared with the right information and current Person Centred Plan.

Swanley and Sevenoaks DPG • We help with the communication between service providers and other organisations, and people with learning difficulties • We give people with a learning disability a place to meet, to feel part of a group, to feel part of a community and to help be part of change • We provide a springboard for local action with District and Town Councils and other mainstream partners.

  10. Swanley and Sevenoaks DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Local links with local organisations who provide rooms and services cheaply or at no cost Volunteers who provide their time and experience to keep the groups running We help link people to services that are already in the community

  12. Tonbridge and Malling DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Regular finance meetings to monitor : • Value for money • Expenses • Cost of employment • Voluntary workers • Annual Budgets • The use of a Business account to show we were making interest

  13. Tunbridge Wells DPG • The Speaking-Up Group • Our Disability Sports Focus Group • The Drop In Community Cafe

  14. Tunbridge Wells DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Fundraising Looking at ways of working for less, for example volunteer workers, cutting Support Workers hours to employ admin staff.

  15. East Kent DPG’s (Canterbury, Dover, Shepway, Swale and Thanet) • Getting and sharing local information • Giving information to other organisations, for example, health, council, police • People can find out what is happening, who is doing what and helps people to work in partnership.

  16. East Kent DPG’s(Continued) • Helps people stay in contact with each other, meet new people and prevent isolation. • Freedom of speech, everyone is treated equally. Gives people a voice and people can raise things that are important to them • Gives people more choice

  17. East Kent DPG’s(Continued) • Important for people to be involved in decision making. Helping to make change happen. • Finding out exactly what people need and want rather than managers doing what they think (saves money?)

  18. East Kent DPG’s(Continued) • Feedback what’s is not working about things like Valuing People Now. Can see if similar problems or issues are raised in more than one district. • Run by people with learning disabilities • Important they are local so people can get to them

  19. East Kent DPG Money Saving or Suggestion Gives people the opportunity to speak up about issues so they are not taking so much of Care Managers time DPG’s can signpost people to services rather than people being referred to NHS/KASS who then signpost to services

East Kent DPG Money Saving or Suggestion (Continued) DPG’s help promote local community development which can support/meet some needs of individuals at no extra cost DPG’s gather and share information for other organisations which saves them doing it themselves, for example police, NHS, KCC, education
