  1. Coaches With Clients presents... “The Rapid Coaching Academy: Professional Coach Training System…” Session #3: Setting Goals & Direction

  2. “Homework Check…” • Did you do the homework? What was it like? • What do you remember that you’ve learned? • How did changing your body work for you? • Note: Watch out for “indexing”: using “you” instead of “I” to distance yourself www.CoachesWithClients.com

  3. “You’re About to Discover…” • What to do before you even have a coaching session • How to set goals for yourself and your clients plus the difference between setting goals & setting a direction • Quantitative goals and qualitative goals • How to create strategic action plans www.CoachesWithClients.com

  4. “Preventing Pressure to Perform…” • It’s common to have a pressure to perform • How to alleviate this pressure… • #1: Enroll clients into at least 6 – 12 months of coaching • A big part of the value of coaching is the ongoing nature of it • 6 months of coaching takes the pressure off • Set your clients up for success by enrolling them into longer periods of time • You want to focus on both the short and long term (not just the short term) www.CoachesWithClients.com

  5. “Performing Under Pressure…” • People tend to perform better when they are relaxed • #2: Let the coaching process do the work for you • Relax and let the process do the work • Add extra value by bringing your skills and experience to the table • The coaching starts as soon as they start paying you money • Meet with clients regularly (find your own natural rhythm) • Focus solely on that person… www.CoachesWithClients.com

  6. “Charge What You’re Comfortable With…” • When your fees are too high for you, it can cause added pressure • If you don’t feel comfortable with any fee or you know what you’re charging is too low, we’re going to address that later in the program • Coaching fees based on ego put extra pressure on you www.CoachesWithClients.com

  7. “Before You Meet With Your Client: Get Centered...” • Stand up • Get in touch with your body • Notice how you’re feeling emotionally • One of the most important things for your clients is just being there; your presence • Your presence has more value than anything you can say or do as a coach • (Many coaches try to do too much) • Being centered is about being relaxed and being present www.CoachesWithClients.com

  8. “What Happens When You’re Centered?” • You’ll be coaching your clients energetically • You’ll be connecting with them • You’ll also be more in tune with what they want and need • You’ll be able to channel a “higher power” or “higher wisdom” • Show up and start coaching… www.CoachesWithClients.com

  9. “Role Play: Who Has A Weight Loss Goal?” • “Tell me about your weight loss goal?” • “What would you like to weigh?” • “What would that feel like if you had that?” • “We’ll be working on that over the next few months…” • “Discipline is forcing yourself to do something you don’t want to do.” • “We’re going to learn how to get you to want to do what you have to do.” www.CoachesWithClients.com

  10. “Role Play: Who Has A Weight Loss Goal?” • “If you were 30 pounds lighter, how would that feel?” • “If you got there, is there any further that you might want to go?” www.CoachesWithClients.com

  11. “Goals & Direction...” • Clients are going to come to you with goals • Others might not be goals focused • Direction is for people looking for their path in life and is more powerful than having goals • Direction can be independent of goals • Direction driven is a cleaner burning energy source www.CoachesWithClients.com

  12. “Direction & Life Purpose...” • Being goal driven is not as clean an energy source • Finding direction involves self-discovery • Finding direction becomes clearer where you’re more in touch with spirit • Direction is kind of like a “life purpose” • The majority of clients will be goal focused www.CoachesWithClients.com

  13. “Setting Great Goals…” • A great goal is specific and measureable • How will you know if you actually get there? • Quantitative vs. qualitative • Quantitative: numeric, measurable • Qualitative: peace of mind, fun, etc. • “On a scale of 1 to 10, how much peace of mind do you feel right now?” www.CoachesWithClients.com

  14. “Timeline…” • Put a date on the end of the goal • Identify the outcome the client wants • You don’t have to have the time frame • Having a time frame can add pressure, and keep you focused on not having it • “What does it mean if you get there sooner or it takes twice as long?” • A lot of people have never set and achieved goals around a timeline • Everyone underestimates how long something will take • We overestimate what we can do in a short period of time, and underestimate what we can do in a long period of time www.CoachesWithClients.com

  15. “Q & A: Unrealistic Goals…” • Q: How do you coach somebody with an unrealistic goal timeframe? • A: Have a conversation: “What if it takes twice as long?” • “Why is it so important to make it happen in 3 days?” • “When you think about making it happen in 3 days, how does that make you feel?” • The client is the only one who can say if it is unrealistic • The client drives himself • What’s driving the goal in the first place? www.CoachesWithClients.com

  16. “Is Your Client Selling Herself Short?” • A lot of times people limit themselves • Ways that we limit ourselves: • What is possible for anyone to do • What is possible for them to do • How hard something is going to be • How hurt they would be if they went for it and failed • How much they are worthy of it • Set a goal for where you really want to be and break it into chunks www.CoachesWithClients.com

  17. “Q&A: Goals vs. Directions...” • Q: Direction seems “more free” than Goals. Can you speak more about that? • A: Time and money are the context for being alive • It is more about the accomplish-ment itself than what the accomplishment does for you • It is hard to have a direction if your whole life is not about it • Setting a goal can limit you www.CoachesWithClients.com

  18. “Homework…” • Get into groups of three • One person will coach another person, and the third person will watch, and then rotate • Coach the same person consistently throughout the program • Coach each other on your goals and action plans • Plan for two or three sessions, twenty minutes each www.CoachesWithClients.com
