  1. FORTH/ICE-HTFoundation for Research and Technology, HellasInstitute of Chemical Engineering and High Temperature Chemical Processes www.iceht.forth.gr A brief review

  2. FORTH/ICE-HT The Institute of Chemical Engineering and High Temperature Chemical Processes (ICE-HT) was established in 1984, as an Independent Academic Institute. In 1987 ICE-HT became one of the founding Institutes of FORTH FORTH comprises seven Research Institutes ( 4 in Heraklion, 1 in Rethymno, 1 in Patras and 1 in Ioannina), and reports directly to the General Secretariat for Research and Technology (GSRT) of the Ministry of Development. The seven Research Institutes of FORTH cooperate creatively as an integrated network for RTD. Currently, ICE-HT runs ca 60 RTD projects in cooperation with numerous industrial enterprises, universities and research institutes from Greece, as well as from other EU-member countries, USA, Japan, etc. These projects are funded by national and EU competitive R&TD programs, and also directly by industrial enterprises.

  3. Facilities ICE-HT has its own 5800 sq.m. facility at Rio, and is located nearly 10 km NE of the city of Patras, at a distance of 2 km from the University of Patras and close to the facility of the Science & Technology Park of Patras. The laboratory and support-service facilities of ICE-HT are of high specifications and excellent capability. Research units such as the integrated high vacuum system (XPS, UPS, AUGER, TDS, EELS, etc.), the micro-RAMAN spectrophotometer, and others, are rare or even unique in Greece.

  4. Human Resources and R&TD The number of staff members and research associates of ICE-HT exceeds 110. Of those, 14 are Researchers (in organic positions), ca 22 are collaborating faculty members from several departments of the University of Patras (Departments of Chemical Engineering, Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Pharmaceutics, and Medicine), 13 are Post-doctoral Fellows, 6 are technicians, 11 are administrative and secretarial staff members, and 60 or more are post-graduate Research Assistants. ICE-HT produces ca 80 publications per year in refereed international scientific journals and its publications receive many hundreds of citations per year. The number of publications per researcher and year is ca 2. and the number of citations per researcher and year is ca 40

  5. Areas of R&TD AD1: Theoretical models and computer-aided simulators (including experimental support as a guide for the development, and for validation) AD2: Surface science, catalysis, and chemical reactor engineering AD3: Science and technology of materials AD4: Environmental engineering and technology AD5: Biochemical engineering and technology
