Drama. Drama. The word drama comes for the Greek word “dran” which means to “to do” or “ to act” The doing/ action makes drama. Drama is a play told in front of an audience. The Elements of Drama. Playwright: The author Actors: The people performing the play.

  2. Drama • The word drama comes for the Greek word “dran” which means to “to do” or “ to act” • The doing/ action makes drama. • Drama is a play told in front of an audience.

  3. The Elements of Drama • Playwright: The author • Actors: The people performing the play. • Acts: The sections of the play • Scenes: the different settings of each Act • Characterization: playwrights attempt for making believable characters.

  4. Dramatic Speech • Dialogue: conversation between or among characters • Monologue: a long speech by ONE single character. ( a character’s private thoughts spoken to the audience.)

  5. Stage Directions • Stage directions are found in brackets [ ] • They describe the scene and how characters move. • Examples: Stage Center, Stage Right, Stage Left

  6. Theater • A theater is the building a play takes place.

  7. Set • A set is made up of construction on the stage that shows the time and place of the play. The set is often referred to as the stage production.

  8. Props • Props are small movable items that actors use to make the setting look real.

  9. Playbill • Often, a playbill is referred to as a menu of a play. • It includes a brief description of the character’s traits and a brief biography of the person who is playing the character. • Advertisements are often put into the playbill as a way to advertise businesses and companies for giving donations to the play.
