  2. What year did mammoth caves become a national park Mammoth caves became a national park in 1941 because of its Mammoth-Flint Ridge Cave System and because it is the longest cave system in the world.

  3. How was the park formed? The confines of mammoth caves were resting in sea water and when the sea receded it created cracks. When rain water came through it eroded the caves.

  4. What type of rocks can be found in the park? The caves are made out of… • Limestone • Sandstone

  5. What special landmarks are in the park • Mammoth-Flint Ridge Cave System • The South-Central Kentucky Karst • Gypsum Flowers cave formation • Frozen Niagra Cave Formation

  6. How is the land inside the park currently changing? The land inside the park is changing by more water is getting inside the cave and making stalactites and stalagmites.

  7. What enviornmental issues are affecting the park. • Littering • Acid rain

  8. How is tehnology used to maintain the park? Helicopters can be used to rescue lost people. They can also help people who are injured or killed.
