  1. Secondary Transfer Application closing date: 31st October 2013

  2. The application process • Advantages of applying online • 4 step process: register, add a child, apply for schools, check and submit the application. • You will then receive a reference number that confirms your application. NB: If you are interested in schools outside the borough the same process applies.

  3. How the admission system works: • Pan-London co-ordinated admissions system (PLCAS) • All parents must list the schools they want to apply for and rank them in order of preference. • Only offered one place. • If a school receives more applications than places available its published admission criteria will be used to offer places.

  4. How the admission system works: • The borough does not pass on details to any school about where you have ranked them or other schools you have applied for. • ALL offers are made on 3rd March 2014.

  5. Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Schools • 6 state secondary schools: • Chelsea Academy, Holland Park School, Kensington Aldridge Academy • Cardinal Vaughan Memorial School (for boys), St Thomas More Language College, Sion Manning RC Girls School • Admissions criteria offers excellent guide on likelihood of getting a place. • Open days held throughout Sept/Oct

  6. Financial Assistance • All children under 16 in full-time education can travel free on bus and tram services. • All school pupils will be required to carry a ‘Zip’ Oyster Photocard to travel free. • Children already receiving free school meals at primary school will continue to receive them at secondary school

  7. Key Dates • From 1st September 2013 – application opens www.rbkc.gov.uk/schools/admissions • 31st October 2013 – closing date for applications • 3rd March 2014 – National offer day • 3rd March 2014 onwards – vacancies filled • 17th March 2014 – deadline to accept offer • May/June 2014 – secondary schools write to you • June/July 2014 – appeals heard by an independent panel

  8. Advice from RBKC • Visit as many open days as possible. • Only apply for a school if you match the admissions criteria. • Priority for places isn’t given to RBKC residents however Holland Park and Chelsea Academy DO give priority to children attending a RBKC primary school.

  9. Online application help session • Thursday 19th September from 3.30 – 6.00 in the ICT Suite (opposite Y5) to offer support completing the application. • If you are unavailable on the 19th please arrange an alternative time with me.

  10. We wish you every success in your application!
