  1. HOW EFFECTIVE IS THE COMBINATION OF YOUR MAIN PRODUCT AND ANCILLARY TEXTS? Our task was to create both the short film and the advertising for it. The advertising was a review in a magazine that we found suitable and a movie poster suitable to its genre. This slideshow will show the effectiveness of both the main product(Short film) with support of its ancillary texts (Movie poster and review)

  2. First stage-Evaluating other pieces of Media to develop an understanding into what is expected. • To create a successful short film I needed to understand the main features that are found in a short film: • Playing With Audience Expectations • Narrative Structure • Catalyst • One Developed Character As evident on my blog the first stage I took was to create a Prezi and analyse short film that I had watched using the four features as topics to look for. The link to the Prezi: http://prezi.com/zt30g64w7qp3/analysis-of-short-films/?auth_key=bf8e0009729bb51b2cca7ca4031b240feecadafa

  3. Second Stage- Creating the short film. • The second stage can be broken down into “Mini stages” because there is so much to plan before any actual filming begins, these stages are: • Firstly we had a preliminary task, this was used to introduce me to the software (Final Cut) and help me understand how to plan all the camera angles and location plans. “Preliminary video on blog”. • After the preliminary task I started to gather ideas together for what my short film could be about. • Next I picked an idea and created a synopsis for it. A synopsis is an idea but explained in more detail this would include a description for how it fits all the conventions of a short film. Along with this I discussed how the characters would be developed. • The next stage was to create a script and test it to make sure it includes all the important elements. • After that I drew up some storyboards and thought out the location plans. • Once all that was complete I could finally start filming.

  4. Third Stage- Analysing other film posters and reviews to understand the style in which they present there pieces. For this stage I looked through 3 different film magazines, these were: Empire Little White Lies Total Film After looking through them all, I had to choose which magazine would suit my film. I selected Little White Lies because: Its double page spreads Simplistic designs Independantfilm reviews Delicate detail on pages.

  5. Fourth Stage- Creating the promotional pieces that will accompany my short film. (Review and Poster). The software I used was called In-Design. The top piece is my poster, this would be used to advertise the film in magazines, bus shelters, advertising boards and on the internet. When creating my two pieces I gathered techniques used from professional movie posters such as: • Shutter Island • The Notebook • Super 8 I began with writing the review on a double page spread then created the single page movie poster. To make both pieces successful I needed: • Consistent style • Text/Font • Logo • Appropriate imagery • Professional layout.
