Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission • Founded in 1904, Big Brothers Big Sisters of America is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States • Big Brothers Big Sisters mentors children, ages 6-18, in communities across the country • National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters mentors have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives.

History of Big Brothers Big Sisters • The idea of developing one-to-one mentoring relationships can be traced back to 1903. • In 1904, Ernest Coulter, a court clerk in New York City, started New York Big Brothers • In 1905, Mrs. John Okeefe began a Big Sisters program in New York City after learning of the Big Brothers program's success

Big Brothers Big Sisters Impact • Big Brothers Big Sisters’ one-to-one youth mentoring has been shown to have a significant and positive impact on the lives of children. • Studies Have Shown • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs • 27% less likely to begin using alcohol • 52% less likely to skip school • 37% less likely to skip a class • more confident of their performance in schoolwork • one-third less likely to hit someone • getting along better with their families
