  2. Eucharist means Thanksgiving • A sacrifice of thanksgiving to the Father (CCC 1360) • A blessing by which the Church expresses her gratitude to God (CCC 1360) • All benefits • accomplished through creation, redemption, & sanctification

  4. Eucharist – Tran-substantiation • Substance (what it is) is changed (mystery) • Accidents (appearance) is bread/wine • Each particle/drop is all of Christ • Remains until no longer bread/wine

  5. Eucharist - Real Presence • Where ever consecrated host/wine is • Present all tabernacles – how? • God and Man (fully human) • Glorified body • Resurrection • Can do things we can’t • Why can’t he be present where he is • Tells us what we shall be like if we live whom we receive

  6. Eucharist - Sacrifice on Calvary • Memorial of the Lord's Passion and Resurrection (CCC 1330) • It makes present the sacrifice Christ offered once for all on the cross (CCC 1364) • continues the work of redemption (CCC 1364)

Eucharist - Fruits • Weekly mass – we need food • “preserves, increases, and renews the life of grace received at Baptism.” (CCC 1392) • “cleansing us from past sins and preserving us from future sins”(CCC 1393) especially mortal sins (CCC 1395) • “strengthens our charity (CCC 1394) • “united more closely to Christ” (CCC 1396) • “commits us to the poor”(CCC 1397) as we must take care of them in charity

  10. Eucharist – Future Glory • “The Church knows that the Lord comes even now in his Eucharist and that he is there in our midst. However, his presence is veiled. Therefore we celebrate the Eucharist "awaiting the blessed hope and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ,"asking "to share in your glory when every tear will be wiped away. On that day we shall see you, our God, as you are. We shall become like you and praise you for ever through Christ our Lord." (CCC 1404)
