State History • New York became a state on July 26, 1788. • New York is the 11th state of the United States. • There were a lot of new settlers, so they built the Erie Canal in 1825 for transportation to all over the United States. • New York had so many jobs that the people kept coming and coming and the economy grew and grew. • In 1929 the Great Depression changed the economy and it got bad, but, during World War II New York bounced back from theDepression because it was a major shipping port for the military.

  3. Politics • Andrew Cuomo is the 56th Governor of New York. Governor • The capital is Albany • New York or NY, is a Democratic State • There are 29 US House of Representatives • There are 2 Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand. • New York is a Democratic state.

Geography • Major Cities are: • Albany (the Capital) • Syracuse • Buffalo • Rochester • Land Forms: The Niagra Falls border Canada and New York, The mountains in New York state are the Adirondacks and the Poconos. • Bodies of Water : Lake Ontario, Finger Lakes, Hudson River. the Hudson Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. • Population: 19,541,453 • Weather/Climate : Snow in the winter and heat waves in the summer • Land size (area):54,556 acres
