  2. Other databases may call this tool, ‘Subjects’ or ‘Subject terms’ One of the best ways to FOCUS a search is to find the controlled vocabulary for the desired topic.

  3. HINT : Watch the animations in between the duplicate bouncing numbers, then read the box for that number. Input global issues or “global issues,” and the results for finding a subject for that phrase are zero. Try only the word ‘global.’ Click ‘Find.’ 1 1 global Skip down to the white space in between the ‘Add to search’ icons to see subject terms and phrases that contain the term ‘global.’ Scroll ‘til you find a term or phrase pertinent to your topic. 6 2 3 2 X Note the definition of the subject heading and under that definition or subject, possible broader terms, related terms, narrower terms, and some use for terms (last 2 not shown). 3 4 X Click ‘Show details’ to find even more focused terms or phrases. Click pertinent boxes to include that term or phrase in your search. 4 5 5 ... the more you AND, the less you get and … OR yields more! After ‘X’ ing some subjects, decide how you will connect them…with an AND, or an OR, or a NOT. 6
