  1. How to Protect Outdoor Furniture Outdoor furniture can be very effective in enhancing the overall look of your house. However, without proper care and regular maintenance it may end up doing just the opposite. Hence, here are a few simple steps that you can take to protect your outdoor furniture and make it more long-lasting.

  2. Step 1: Clean the furniture Before you take any protective measures, remove all the upholstery and ensure that it's in good condition. Scrub it clean using a mild cleanser and a sponge. Step 2: Apply furniture protector on the frames The furniture frames are the ones that are most exposed to harsh UV rays. To protect them from damage apply a compatible protector onto the frames.

  3. Step 3: Clean the upholstery Just like the furniture, it is necessary that you clean the upholstery before taking any protective measures. Brush off as much dirt as possible, wash it using a suitable cleanser and let it dry out completely. Step 4: Use a fabric protector The best way to protect upholstery is to apply an appropriate fabric protector on it. When you can apply several layers of fabric protector, ensure that the first layer of is completely dry before applying the second one.

  4. Step 5: Apply stain & water repellents for added protection Applying stain and water repellents on the furniture and the upholstery will help you maintain their aesthetic beauty for a longer duration. Again, when applying multiple layers, ensure that the first coat is dry before starting with the second coat. Step 6: Store in clean & dry places When the furniture is not being used, try and store it in clean and dry sheds or garages. If storing them in a shed a not an option then you can try using protective furniture covers to protect them from harsh elements of nature.

  5. Remember… Always use protective gloves and masks when using cleansers, protectors or repellents. Before you apply fabric protector on the upholstery, ensure that it won't cause any discoloring or damage to the furniture frame. For best results, apply fresh coats of fabric protector on the upholstery at the start of every season. Avoid using water and stain repellents that contain high oil percentage, as that will lead to dirt sticking to the furniture. It is recommended that repellents be reapplied every 2-3 years to provide furniture with maximum protection.
