  7. Shifting Left/Right Shift Up/Down Shift Outside the parentheses (the function/equation) Same sign Example y=|x|+2 shifts up 2 • Inside the parentheses (the function/equation) • Opposite sign • Example y=|x+2| shift 2 left

  8. Reflecting Over the x-axis Over the y-axis Negative Inside the parentheses Example y=(-x) • Negative sign outside parentheses • Example y=-|x|

  10. Beyond parent functions… We have only shifted and reflected parent functions, but we could transform ANY function (including a generic function we will call f(x) )
