  1. Motioning 3 Reasons why we motion: 1) Makes the same play look different to the defense 2) Gets an extra blocker at the point of attack 3) Gives the defense less recognition and reaction time

  2. Motioning We’ll say who (Z, F, T, Y or X) we want to go in motion, followed by where they should be at the snap.

  3. Motioning • Rules: • Before the motioning player moves he must: • 1) Be off the line of scrimmage • 2) Be sure all players are ‘set’ for 1 full second • Smoothly begin his motion (do not jerk) • Be moving parallel to or away from the line at the snap • Square up your shoulders to the line of scrimmage by shuffling for the last 2 steps

  4. The numbered areas tell the motion player where to be at the snap. Even numbers – 2,4,6,8 – to the right T G G T C Q 4 6 8 2

  5. The numbered areas tell the motion player where to be at the snap. Odd numbers – 1,3,5,7 – to the left T G G T T C Q 7 5 3 4 6 8 1 2

  6. Motion Example: 1 of 6 Note: You’ll know we want motion, if the area number has a player’s letter (Z, F, T,Y or X) before it. Right Z5 T G G T X C Y Z Q Tight End Split End Flanker F TB Right formation with the Z motioned to the 5 position

  7. Z Flanker Motion Example: 2 of 6 Slot Left Z6 T G G T X C Y Q Tight End Split End F TB Slot Left formation with the Z motioned to the 6 position

  11. X Y Z Tight End Split End Flanker Motion Example: 6 of 6 12-Even F5 T G G T C Q F TB 12-Even formation with the F motioned to the 5 position

  12. Motioning IMPORTANT- To motion the Y or X: 1) Z must line up on the line 2) Y/X must first step off the line and pause for 1 full second before going in motion

  13. X Y Z Tight End Split End Flanker X/Y Example: 1 of 3 Left Y4 T G G T C Q F Pause - 1 full second TB Z is now ON the line Left formation with the Y motioning to the 4 position

  14. X Y Z Tight End Split End Flanker X/Y Example: 2 of 3 Slot Right Y4 T G G T C Q F Pause - 1 full second • Z is ON the line • Note: Z is now ‘covered’ by X and is ineligible to cross the line on a pass play. • If it’s a pass play, he must run a Bubble TB Slot Right formation with the Y motioning to the 4 position

  16. Motioning Returning Motion Lastly, if we want to motion and return back to our original spot, we’ll use the word ‘Echo’
