Section 2: France and the Benelux Countries Countries: France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Languages: French, Flemish, Dutch, Luxembourgian Land Features: low and flat lands, rocky cliffs, beaches Weather: Agricultural climate Government: France: RepublicBelg, Neth, Lux: Parliamentary democracy with a constitutional monarchy Economy:Agriculture and manufacturing.

Constitutional Monarchy- A queen/king is the official head of state But elected officials run the government. Polder- land reclaimed from the sea Navigable- a body of water that is wide enough and deep enough to allow The passage of ships. Multinational Company- a company that does business in more than one country. Multilingual- able to speak several languages

Section 5: Southern Europe General Information: Countries: Spain, Portugal, Italy and Greece Language: Basque, Spanish, Greek, Portuguese and Italian Landforms: Peninsula, plateaus, dry land, coastline, island, volcanic mountain, earthquakes Weather: Mild, rainy winters, hot, sunny summers Government: Spain, Portugal- modern democracy Italy- democratic republic Greece- Parliamentary republic Economy: Shipping, olive oil, cork, industrial

  8. Neutrality- Refusal to take sides in disagreements and wars between countries. Coalition Government- gov’t in which two or more political parties work together to run a country. Autobahn- Super highway Dry Farming- Farming method in which land is left unplanted every few years to restore the soil’s minerals. Heavy Industry- manufactured goods such as machinery, mining equipment and steel.
