  3. Suffolk Ofsted Inspections Between September 2013 and October 2013, Suffolk had a total of nine schools that were inspected under the new regime. In eight out of nine schools - Careers provision was mentioned in the final Ofsted report.

  4. Ofsted comments The provision of advice and guidance is good at all levels. Choices advice for Key Stage 4 and the sixth form is well-developed. The wealth of student experiences together with good careers and university advice encourages students to be ambitious. Consequently the majority of sixth-form students progress to universities that are either top or high on their list of choices Special events such as the ‘post 16 information evening’ support parents and carers well in working with their child to choose the next step in their learning Careers education has not yet fully adapted to new requirements introduced last September

  5. What Osfted said…. Strong partnerships with local businesses, schools and organisations, local cafes, garages and hairdressing salons, have led to highly successful work experience placements. In turn, these have led to successful engagement with college courses and more options for suitable employment Students are given good information and guidance about course and career options Students in all key stages told inspectors that they value the good advice and guidance provided for them about which courses to study and the work experience and career opportunities available to them

Suffolk’s Ofsted Inspections • Inconsistent about the inspection of careers activities • Aspects of career activities that are being inspected are very limited - next steps, destinations – not looking at the diversity of possible careers activities and the wider impact • The inspectors don’t seem to be concerned with ensuring the access to an impartial careers guidance specialist – as stated in DfE guidance • There doesn’t seem to be a rigorous method of inspecting quality • Some of the staff involved with careers work were not involved at all in the assessment made by inspectors – whilst others were “grilled”.
