  1. Topic 2 Reading Blueprints and Drawings SCO 2.13

  2. SCO • Students will be expected to: • 2.13 sketch floor plans [1.405][2.402]

  3. Why? • The purpose of this outcome is to further develop sketching technique while developing understanding of drawing used in construction. This exercise does not attempt to replicate the complexity of a set of building plans.

  4. Points to Emphasize • Proper use of lines is important • Use a scale, or count the grid to determine location of lines • Ensure that all of the key elements of each drawing are present • Follow a technique of major outlines first with construction lines, followed by blocking in details with object lines

  5. Points to Emphasize • All elements of the drawings should be included in the sketch • Sketches should be accurate within the precision of the grid lines • All lines should be of the correct type and weight • Dimensions should be included • The method of drawing should show that the student understands the components of the object being sketched.

  6. Assignment • Remembering the drawings and with the aid of grid paper, sketch a floor plan that has: • Must be at least 1000 sq feet. • Must have at least 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom • Must have all of the common areas normally found in a home • Must have at least 2 exits to the outside • Must have at least 6 windows
