  1. Careers 2014-15

  2. Head of Careers & Uni Counselling • years 11-13 (+ parents) can access Mr Drennan • years 9-10 have Mrs Jackson-Hall, the WEC • open Careers Clinic, 7.45-9.15am Monday (203) • no bookings, no reservations, no other times • plan ahead to use it well (fair usage applies) • apologise in advance for absence (tutor / teacher) • priority : http://dbscareers.wordpress.com/meetings/ • UK, other EU, US, SA, Ausetc – even regional ME

  3. 6th form: “Who do I go to?” • For neutral guidance and beyond-the-school perspective: HCUC • For processes involved in applying (application, reference, funding): KSL Mrs. Rolf & Mr. Drennan work closely together but have a different focus. HCUC will not hold you to account over grades or grade realism.

  4. Careers provision for years 11-13 • Clinic is any questions, open to all • uni fairs and visits as available (6th form) • Internship programme (13s followed by 12s) • PSHE: • time man / stress man / coaching for year 12 • A-level options prep for year 11s • distributed elite support (Oxbridge etc) • personal statement writing support – tutors only • no informal drop in system any more

  5. The 2014 uni admissions taught us • uni offers more demanding than ever (?) • very hard to improve AS  A2 • A-levels marked hard, many places missed • but even some top unis in clearing • people not taking “insurance” offers rightly • UK fees now make it an unwise destination if course is taught in English elsewhere?

  6. Doing things in time Plan ahead. Schedule in good time. All of the following take time from other people AND YOU CANNOT RUSH THEM to suit yourself: • target grades • personal statement support • references • meetings Staff won’t rush these. Your application will be late.

  7. This term – doing / thinking • AS: • beware the chasm from GCSE, sink / swim • drop the “wrong” AS in time! • 5 AS: no dropping in Nov / Dec • A2: you should barely need teachers now! get ready for the next stage • 11s: A-level choices will be here quickly • GCS careers fair 1.30pm  on Thur 18th Sept

  8. Elite group And finally… Please can I quickly see RIGHT NOW these 13s: Eyad, Sara, Sohaib, Zoe, Rosalie, Luke, Carys, Safiya, Rahim, Amir, Huzaifa (ie AAB+ at AS-level group)
